B C Roy Hall
Established in the year 1956, the
B. C. Roy Hall of Residence currently is the home to the young and
enthusiastic research scholars of the
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
The hall carries the name of the founder and mentor of the institute, the first one of its
kind in India, and the then Chief Minister of West Bengal Dr. Bidhan
Chandra Roy. Situated on the research scholars' avenue and closest to
the academic area of the Institute, it is the breeding place of the new
generation of academicians of the country.

Hostel Life
To the boarders of the hall, it is "the home away home". In
fact, many have turned it into their `first home'. The Common room with a
TV, a very rich library, two canteens, garden, sports-room with
playgrounds, various sports facilities are there to satisfy all kinds of
refreshment needs of the boarders. The hall is ornamented with
the state of the art facilities, like high speed LAN connection to every
room, PNT facility and a public address system, modern water purifying
system, and a fully hygienic mess system providing all kinds of Indian
dishes.

Research at Canteen
In deed, it is the nerve center of the hall
activities. Policies are debated. Decisions are made. Research topics are
discussed. Leg-pulling, heart-breaks, and emotions flow freely. Everything
happens over a cup of chai at the canteens of Swadesh and Khetu.

Sports
Equipped with a small ground to host both
cricket and football, a full-length volleyball court and a badminton clay-court
- all supported by flood lights (supplied by need :-), an indoor Table
Tennis room with carrom boards, a sports room with sufficient body building
facilities, the evenings of the hall buzzes with sporting activities.
Regular intra-hall competitions are held with great enthusiasms.

Hall Garden
If you happen to visit the institute
in winter and if any hall attracts your attention for its colors -
safely consider it the B. C. Roy hall's garden. It is a different story
that we always get the second prize in the garden competition.

Drawing Competition
The B. C. Roy Memorial Drawing Competition
started in the year of 1995 for the school children. It is our tribute to
the great personality and visionary Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. The competition
is held on the last weekend of June every year. The prize distribution
ceremony is held on the 1st July, the birth day of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.
Over the years, the event has grown in its popularity and size. Over 600
participants registered last year!

Illu & Rangoli
Illumination and Rangoli are the two unique
events you won't probably find anywhere in India. And it is indeed one of
the most beautiful ones. The institute organizes a competition within the
halls of residence. As a part of the culture, our hall shows great
enthusiasm in the events.

Library
The library reflects
the multilingual culture of the hall. It
encourages and enriches the intellectual itinerary of the boarders. A rich
collection of books, magazines, comics and cassettes on different Indian as
well as western languages, like english, hindi, bengali, oriya, telegu,
etc., are subscribed and maintained. The library is equally equipped with
on-line query and search engines. It also boasts of its digital collection
of books and songs.

Hall Day
On first week of March every year, we
have our Hall Day "SPANDAN". It speaks about the vibrant nature of
multi-lingual and multi-cultured research scholars. The Hall is decorated
with lights and handicrafts and we have one small colorful cultural
programme followed by a grand dinner. Among the invitees, many eminent
professors and friends from other halls take part in the celebration.
