By the
great epic Ramayana, when Sri Rama returned back to Ayodya, after his glorious
victory over Ravana, the inhabitants of Ayodhya celebrated the occasion by
decorating their houses and pathways with diyas. The celebration of the
day, called deepavali, is
followed still today in the form of illumination. The belief is that the light will drive away ill and evil forces,
and will fill our lives with joy, happiness and prosperity.
