By the great epic Ramayana, when Sri Rama returned back to Ayodya, after his glorious victory over Ravana, the inhabitants of Ayodhya celebrated the occasion by decorating their houses and pathways with diyas. The celebration of the day, called deepavali, is followed still today in the form of illumination. The belief is that the light will drive away ill and evil forces, and will fill our lives with joy, happiness and prosperity.

In celebration of this tradition, all the halls of the institute participate in an unique illumination. Giant figures or events, borrowed from mythologies are prepared with diyas, and are brought into life in the darkness of Krishna Panchami. It is almost impossible to describe the feeling when diyas are lightened and the figures take shape.

The boarders of the B C Roy Hall of Residence show great enthusiasm and involve themselves by active participation in this great event.
